"Ship Via" is a term used to describe the freight carrier or method of shipping products to a customer. Some customers, because of FOB origin considerations, may prescribe their preferred delivery system. Ship Via is entered as a preference for each ship-to destination and guides the shipping department in which carrier to use for a shipment. The delivery system may also be U.S. Mail, a company truck, will-call, etc.

Some examples of Ship Via are: Company Truck, Federal Express, Airborne, UPS, etc.

This field is used in Customer Shipping Information, Sales/Work Order Management, Packing List, Purchase Receiving Information, and Purchase Order.

Once the pickup or delivery time is entered, this information is used in the Sales Order and Scheduling modules to inform users of the time of day the goods must be ready for shipment. It is recommended that the user add a buffer of about thirty minutes to an hour for pickup time to insure that the goods will be ready on time. It is not necessary to enter the pickup or delivery time for a company truck since the company may make multiple deliveries in one day.
